If you’re a fan of the late night talk shows and you make sure that your DVR is set to record all of them, here’s some bad news for you this week. We’re only running at about 50% this week, with half of our late night talkers taking a summer week off to enjoy themselves. Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan and the Late Late Show with James Corden are all on vacation this week. However, the late night hosts still coming into the office this week are bringing plenty of comedy with them and of course, the ones in reruns are repeating visits from some of their favorite comedy guests.
Monday should bring us an interesting episode of the Tonight Show. This past weekend, Donald Trump used the word “whimpering” on Twitter to describe Jimmy Fallon for discussing the heat the Tonight Show host took online for his now infamous hair-tousling interview with then-candidate Trump back in September, 2016. Fallon had his own tweet response to the President’s criticism. So we’ll all see how what Jimmy has to say about this on Monday’s Tonight Show.
Also on Monday, Stephen Colbert has booked two funny guests to cover his share of the comedy slack. He’s got British comedian Romesh Ranganathan appearing on the Late Show on Monday as well as comedian turned Quiz Daddy, Regis Trilbin, Pat Slay-jack, The Woke Woolery, Quiz Khalifa, Trap Trebek, Meshugana Martindale…well, you get the idea. It’s Scott Rogowsky, the NYC stand up comic who’s now the games-master on HQ Trivia. Monday, we’ll see if he has any nicknames for Stephen Colbert. Other than the ones President Trump calls him behind closed doors.
On Tuesday, there’s a brand new episode of The Jim Jefferies Show on Comedy Central at 10:30pm. Something tells us Jim will have some choice comments on the U.S. government’s policy of separating illegal immigrants from their children which came and went quickly last week. Then on Wednesday, watch for a return visit from comedian Tim Robinson on Late Night with Seth Meyers. You might know Tim as “Dale”, Seth Meyer’s “emergency sidekick.” on Late Night. And you probably don’t know Tim from his time as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. If you’re wondering, “when was that?” Tim Robinson was an SNL featured cast member for one season only during SNL-Season 38 during the 2012 – 2013 television season.
Thursday, Eric Andre & Derrick Beckles will be on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS to talk about their brand new show on Adult Swim called “Mostly 4 Millennials” premiering at midnight on Sunday, July 1st. The new series has been described as Eric Andre’s gross style of humor with a hint of “Jackass” thrown in.
Then on Friday, on a new Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon is keeping up his Friday night trend of featuring performances from some of the country’s hottest stand ups. This Friday is no exception. Jimmy F. welcomes Taylor Tomlinson to the Tonight Show stage. Taylor is also part of Netflix’s “The Comedy Lineup” which begins streaming next Tuesday, July 3rd. Be sure to read up on this new Netflix comedy showcase otherwise known as “15-minute specials” here on the Interrobang.
