John Cleese & Eric Idle Debut a New Song on Conan

Two of the founding members of the legendary comedy troupe Monty Python, John Cleese and Eric Idle are currently on their “Together Again At Last…For The Very First Time” – North American Tour 2016. And that tour made a stop on “Conan” Thursday night which included the debut of a new song.
Conan O’Brien made the initial mistake of not directing his questions to one Python at a time. The things that we learned from their Conan conversation is that John Cleese appreciates rude questions from reporters and that he wishes some of his ex-wives dead, but only “in the nicest possible way”. Eric Idle, on the other hand, is celebrating nearly 40 years of marriage to the same woman. That conversation also included references to “pussy grabbing” and having his “penis frozen”.
The new song written for this tour is pretty topical. It’s a loving song “from the heart” called “Fuck Selfies”. It was performed with Eric Idle on guitar and vocals and John Cleese on selfie stick. Cleese said that they’ll be opening their shows with it while on tour. You can watch it performed on Conan below, along with the rest of the interview.
The interview with Cleese and Idle naturally turned to America’s election of Donald Trump as President. Eric Idle said he’s noticed that people, especially ones going to their shows, seem traumatized. John Cleese said Trump being President falls into the category of “things you cannot make jokes about”, saying that the situation is causing a sense of “hopelessness”. He asked, “What do you do with the oldest guy who’s ever been elected President who’s clearly unqualified for the job?”
The Pythons said one interesting thing about Trump’s Presidency will be his cabinet. Cleese had one name in mind for a spot in the Trump Administration and noted that some of the names already mentioned in the media for cabinet positions, sounded more like Trump was putting together a pirate crew.
Hoping to end on a positive note, John Cleese and Eric Idle went out with a classic song from their iconic comedy, “Monty Python’s Life of Brian” when Idle performed “Always Look On The Bright Side of Life”. It’s a song that has never been needed more.
