Jeffrey Tambor on Arrested Development Season Five: There Will Be “Some Wall Stuff”
Actor Jeffrey Tambor stopped by the Above Average offices and was ambushed by AA’s Rob King for an impromptu episode of Your Biggest Fan, the interview show where King tries (and fails) to have conversations with celebrities without making them uncomfortable. In this episode, Tambor touches on a few topics, including what he’s most proud of, what all of his characters have in common, and how to differentiate one’s level of Jewishness.
When asked by King what he’s most proud of, Tambor responds that he’s proud both of his recent book, Are You Anybody?, and the trifecta of characters that he’s played on some of his more well known shows. “I have a pretty good trifecta going,” said Tambor. “I have The Larry Sanders Show… ‘Hey now!’ George and Oscar from Arrested Development… ’No touching!’ And Maura Pfefferman from Transparent… ‘Yas kween.’” And what do those three vastly different characters all have in common? “They’re all Jewish. All of my characters are Jewish,” said Tambor.
Also, it’s only a morsel, but when asked about what the plot to season five of Arrested Development will be, Tambor replies, “The last time I was there, they buried me as Saddam Hussein in the sand, so. And I think we’ll probably do some wall stuff, you know?” The “wall stuff” he mentioned has to do with the Mexico/U.S. border wall that George and Lucille Bluth attempted to have constructed during 2013’s season four, which ended up prophetically mirroring a campaign promise of future presidential candidate Donald Trump.
It’s a short but funny interview which does well to demonstrate just how likable Tambor really is. I dare you to watch and not laugh, I dare you!
