Is Letterman Still Trying to Get Leno on the Show?

According to New York Times culture reporter Dave Itzkoff , Jay Leno has received yet another invitation to appear on the Late Show before David Letterman retires. The clock is ticking and if the rumors are true, Dave’s producers have been trying to book Leno for the past year with the latest request going out last week. There’s a month left of Letterman left and this appears to be becoming a priority for the Late Show bookers. Uproxx reported that Itzkoff tweeted that now “the ball is in Leno’s court”.
That was one of the “two interesting things” that Dave Itzkoff said came up at the Late Show taping on Monday. The other is that another person Dave wants to get back on the show before he retires is suspended NBC anchorman Brian Williams. The Late Show hasn’t gotten a yes or no from Williams about appearing. Brian Williams’ suspension for lying about being shot down in a military helicopter over Iraq isn’t up until August, months after Letterman’s last show. It was the Late Show with David Letterman where Williams talked about his untrue, yet harrowing experience to a national audience.
2 interesting things Dave @Letterman said at tonite's taping: has asked Brian Williams to be guest on final shows; he hasn't said y or n.

Also: as recently as last week, Jay Leno has been invited to appear on one of Letterman's last shows. Ball is in Leno's court, apparently.
