The reports that David Letterman wants to book Jay Leno as a guest on the Late Show before he retires are resurfacing. It was almost a year ago that the first rumor started that Dave wanted to book Jay on his show. At that time, Jay Leno had just left the Tonight Show and Dave hadn’t announced his retirement yet.

TV Insider is saying that the invitation was extended a year ago and now Late Show producers are trying to make it happen before David Letterman wraps things up on May 20th. Leno, who is getting ready for his new CNBC gig, “Jay Leno’s Garage”, was asked about it at the NATPE convention last week. He said, “I haven’t heard that. I’ll have to check into that.”

The last time Jay Leno was on a David Letterman show, it was on NBC’s Late Night just before Leno took over the Tonight Show for the first time. More recently, the two had a reunion along with Oprah Winfrey in a Super Bowl ad for the Late Show in 2010.

Last year, Leno said he was open to the idea of being a guest on Dave’s show. He said, “That could happen, why not?” He added, “It’s certainly a possibility. Some of my best moments were doing the show with Dave.”
