First Jon Stewart Special in 21 Years; Stewart Set to Host ‘Night of Too Many Stars’

It’s been a long time coming, but after 21 long years, Jon Stewart is finally gearing up to put out another stand-up special. HBO announced today that Stewart would not only be putting out his first special in over two decades with the network, but he would also be taking over hosting duties of this year’s Night of Too Many Stars charity event in the name of NEXT For AUTISM.

Before Stewart left The Daily Show after a 16-year stint as host, he promised fans that they may soon see him getting back on stage doing comedy, and he’s followed through with that. Comedy fans in New York and L.A. have reported seeing Stewart drop in for surprise sets over the past year or so, and it appears that Stewart was honing his material for an official return to the stand-up game. This will be the first special that Stewart has produced since 1996’s HBO special Jon Stewart: Unleavened. No title, location or premiere date has been announced yet.

HBO’s President of Programming, Casey Bloys, also reported that Stewart will be hosting the Night of Too Many Stars all-star benefit, which will be broadcast live from The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York on November 18th. The event, which features stand-up, sketch comedy and short films, was created by former Saturday Night Live writer/producer Robert Smigel in order to raise money to help better serve people in the New York City area living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. While the lineup of performers has yet to be announced, the event promises to be wildly entertaining, as previous years have featured the likes of Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, Louis C.K., Jimmy Fallon, Amy Schumer, David Letterman and many more.
