First Look at Netflix’s New Wrestling Comedy Starring Alison Brie and Marc Maron

GLOW

Let’s get ready to ruuuuuuuumbllllllleeeee!

Netflix has announced this week that they have a new comedy series in the works called GLOW starring Alison Brie (Community, Mad Men) and Marc Maron (The Marc Maron Show). The show, while fictional, is based on the very real Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling promotion (or G.L.O.W.) that aired from 1986 — 1990. The show, which was filmed in Las Vegas, was known for its larger-than-life characters and elaborate and comical sketches. Now, Netflix is hoping to recapture some of that wacky magic with their new show, which is set to premiere on June 23rd.

GLOW will tell the story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), a struggling Los Angeles-based actress who attempts to jump-start her career by responding to a casting call for a women’s wrestling promotion. Ruth then finds herself in the glitter and spandex-filled world of wrestling, accompanied by a group of fellow Hollywood outcasts including the bitter former soap opera actress Debbie Eagan (Nurse Jackie’s Betty Gilpin). Maron will be playing G.L.O.W. head Sam Sylvia, a B-movie director who hopes to turn his hair-brained idea into a television hit.

Netflix has released a few teaser images from the show, most of which feature Brie looking wonderfully-80’s. Leg warmers, high-waisted spandex leotards, glitter and bad hair: GLOW looks ready to deliver a nostalgia bomb on June 23rd. Check out the images below!
