A big part of being a comedian is taking risks. From stepping foot on stage to pushing your material as far as it can go and everything in between, it’s like playing a game of Operation with a blindfold on. But that’s half the fun. Which is why comedians generally enjoy doing shows that challenge them to step outside of their comfort zone. For both them and the audience, it breaks up the monotony of the typical stand-up comedy show. New York City residents have access to literally thousands of comedy shows every year. Here are some of the best shows in NYC where comedians perform stand-up with a twist.

Deadpool’s T.J. Miller Reveals His Very Real Plan to Fight Advertising with Advertising

Last week we wrote about Deadpool co-star T.J. Miller's crusade against Ricky Gervais as revealed in his one hour interview with SiriusXM host Ron Bennington, but Gervais isn't the only ill that Miller wants to cure. In the interview, which was part of Bennington's Unmasked series, he also unveiled a plan to start a non profit company to combat the negative effects of advertising. It will be called the Epi-Curators and its mission will be to post billboards around the country to let everyone know a very simple message: "It's okay."

David Spade Doesn’t Get Pranked, David Spade Pranks You

David Spade does not like to get pranked, punked or hidden camera'd in way. He got "Punk'd" once, by Ashton Kutcher but the episode never aired. "I think I was a baby about it," Spade admitted to us in a recent interview about his new series, Fameless. "I think I said don't do it, and Ashton was like 'oh no, really!?'" Spade readily agreed it was all on him.
