Eddie Izzard for Mayor of London? Eddie Izzard is currently working his way through Australia on his worldwide Force Majeure comedy tour. But in a few years, he’s planning to run for Mayor of London– in the year 2020.

He plans on making his run for mayor a campaign of hope and if elected, he’ll be working on ways to get people in Europe to come together for a greater good. Izzard told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, “If we can’t do it in Europe then how is any other continent going to do this? The world will not make it. If we don’t do this, then the world will not make it.” He added, “Because despair is the fuel of terrorism and hope is the fuel of civilisation.”

Eddie Izzard was already talking about his political aspirations in an interview on SiriusXM’s Unmasked with host Ron Bennington in July, 2010. He told Bennington then, “If this world’s going to exist beyond the end this century, we’ve got to get to a fair world. And I think terrorism, the energy of terrorism, it’s from lack of hope, from despair. They breed from that and they’ve had members of their family killed. There’s no infrastructure. The kids can’t get jobs. You’re living on one dollar a day, two dollars a day. Why don’t you just take out a load of these bad guys who seem to be living high on the hog and it sounds good, doesn’t it? And people are going ‘Yeah okay, let’s do that’.”

He told Ron Bennington what needed to be done and what makes him feel ready. He said, “And I think the only way to get through that is to have everyone in the world having a fair chance. So I want to go and try to make that happen. I do have energy. I do have ideas that are different. And I like people. I like people.”

On Unmasked, Eddie Izzard knew that a career in politics meant his entertainment career would have to wait. He said, “I’m going to have to shoot my career in the head or put it into deep hibernation. But I have to do at least one election. I could get in and it not work out. And then, I’ll go, ‘Okay, well there’s the career again.'”

Hopefully nobody will hold his run as the most frightening villain on television in the series Hannibal against him.
