Damon Wayans Jr. Signs on For Seth Rogen’s ‘Singularity’ Pilot

Details have been slim as of late, but it looks like FX’s futuristic tech-comedy, Singularity, is beginning to move forward. The Seth Rogen/Evan Goldberg project was unofficially announced by Rogen on the Nerdist podcast back in August, and there haven’t been many developments since then. Now, the show has found a leading man in Happy Endings/New Girl co-star Damon Wayans Jr.
Not much is known about the show’s plot, other than the fact that it will take place in the not-so-distant future, when humanity has created artificial intelligence that has drastically changed day-to-day life. While some are wary of dependence on the intellectually superior AI, Wayans’ character, Doug, happily accepts all of the creature comforts that come with living in a super advanced society. Of course, Doug’s position is likely to change, as there’s bound to be a conflict brewing between humanity and their technological overlords. Sonny Lee, producer on Silicon Valley and 2 Broke Girls, wrote the script and then specifically presented it to Rogen and Goldberg because it shares a similar tone to the duo’s hit apocalyptic comedy This is the End.
This is one of two futuristic shows that Rogen and Goldberg have been working on as of late, the other being Future Man, which was picked up to series by Hulu shortly after Singularity was announced. The duo are likely considering themselves lucky to have gotten Wayans Jr. on board at all, as the actor has received offers from multiple networks in recent months.
