Comedy Central Show Wants to Give You a Hood Pass

Comedian and writer James Davis had a unique upbringing. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles, one block away from where “shit goes down,” he experienced life in two worlds. Living “hood adjacent” gave him a distinct perspective on inner-city life, and now Comedy Central is looking to tap that well. The cable comedy giant announced that Davis will have a new show, called Hood Adjacent with James Davis, coming to the network on June 28th at 9 p.m.

Hood Adjacent will feature Davis’ unique take on contemporary urban culture, explaining the facts and dispelling the myths that have been reinforced by mainstream media. Along the way, he’ll be joined by a few of his friends as he explores various topics and “bridges the gap” between mainstream and urban comedy.

This isn’t Davis’ first time collaborating with Comedy Central; He previously had a Snapchat show called Swagasaurus in which he explained different phrases used by young people, Urban Dictionary style. Beyond that, he’s also contributed to both Chelsea Lately (as a round table guest) and The Late Late Show with James Corden (as a writer).
