Comedy 101 is going international!!!! We started in NY, went half way across the country to Austin, and now we’re bringing 101 to the prestigious Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal! And we’re celebrating by releasing our most recent episode- Class 6- on iTunes! In November 2015, we held our first Comedy 101 live at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. Since then, we’ve taken the show to the Village Underground, to the Stand Comedy Club, to the New York Comedy Festival, and most recently, to Austin, Texas. And Episode 6 of Comedy 101 surpassed all our expectations.
Our mentors from SiriusXM’s The Bonfire and GaS Digital’s Legion of Skanks- Big Jay Oakerson, Dan Soder and Luis J. Gomez were killers on stage at the legendary Antone’s music club. But Austin’s panel of rookies really represented- they showed us how weird Austin can get, they were tough as nails facing our mentors and there was also some real strong talent among our performers.
Bravely taking the stage were open mic comedians: impressionist Timothy Banfield, Aussie native Leni Mex, street performer Hi Fi Bong, Austin native Christina Parrish, trans comedian and winner of Best Legs, Austin Smartt and batting clean up in a poor choice of shirt, Derek Kopszywa. We loved ’em all. We have to give gigantic thanks to Samantha Mitchell, Carina Magyar and of course Colleen McGarr who helped connect us with Austin’s scene to find our six, very funny and ballsy as fuck comedians. Comedy 101 puts open mic comedy acts together with a panel of mentors, all New York stand-up legends, all killers. It’s an open mic meets a roast, as we send our young rookie open mic comics up like lambs to a slaughter– because our panel of mentors aren’t exactly the advice giving types. Our open mic performers have to tell a joke, and fast, or they’ll be the joke.
