CNN Cancelled Larry Wilmore Appearance After His WHC Dinner Set

larry wilmore
According to a report by Mediaite, comedian Larry Wilmore’s recent appearance at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner may have earned him more than just the ire of the crowd.

The site is reporting that following Wilmore’s performance, in which he lambasted both the network and its personalities, the comic was invited by CNN host Don Lemon to appear on his show for an interview. That appearance was supposed to take place May 4th, a few days after the WHC event, but (according to Mediaite) a CNN producer axed Wilmore from the program shortly before he was set to appear. The producer supposedly cut Wilmore because he wanted the program to focus more on politics, specifically the Indiana primaries, which had been over for over a day at that point.

It does seem odd that CNN would cancel Wilmore’s appearance and not reschedule it, seeing as how Wilmore’s WHC dinner performance was a huge topic of conversation for days after it occurred, so having the comic on the show (especially after the remarks he made about the network) would have been a big deal and led to some killer ratings.

That being said, the report from Mediaite is simply hearsay, and it would be totally understandable if CNN decided they didn’t want to give Wilmore airtime after he flat-out said that they haven’t been a news network for years and then proceeded to metaphorically crap all over Don Lemon and Wolf Blitzer.

The truth likely lies somewhere in the middle, and it’s unsure if we’ll ever find out for sure. In case you need a reminder of how brutally efficient Wilmore’s set was, the video has been included below:
