Chris Rock to Host SNL’s 46th Season Premiere

Last weekend, Saturday Night Live left the virtual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony with 6 trophies including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. On Saturday, October 3rd, SNL starts working on winning next year’s Emmys.

Saturday Night Live hopes to keep its momentum going with a major announcement for the new season. Comedy superstar Chris Rock will host the Saturday Night Live Season 46 Premiere when SNL returns to its home studio.

Information on how and when SNL would come back this fall after its previous season was shortened by the Covid crisis started coming in last week. The final 3 episodes of Saturday Night Live were remotely produced from home this past April in a patchwork effort to finish the season during the Coronavirus lockdown that shuttered all television and movie productions.

SNL announced last week that it will be returning to 30 Rock with a limited live in-studio audience under strict Covid guidelines for the new season. The Emmy Award winning variety series announced new additions to the cast while also confirming that all the current cast members would be returning as well.

The missing part of last week’s announcement was, who would be hosting the SNL Season Premiere? The question was answered in an NBC press release and on Twitter on Thursday when Saturday Night Live told the world that former cast member Chris Rock would get the honor of launching the new SNL season.

Saturday, October 3rd will be Chris Rock’s third time hosting the show where he was a regular cast member from 1990 to 1993 when he was fired from series. The rest is comedy history. Chris Rock went on to become one of stand up’s biggest stars with massive HBO specials including “Chris Rock: Bring the Pain” (1996), “Chris Rock: Bigger & Blacker” (1999) and “Chris Rock: Never Scared” (2004).

In a huge career-turn this year, Chris Rock will be promoting his newest project when he hosts Saturday Night Live on October 3rd, which is taking the lead in a crime-drama anthology series. Chris will be headlining the 4th installment of the FX crime mystery series, “Fargo.”

Chris Rock stars as Loy Cannon who heads up a Black crime syndicate in 1950’s Kansas City. Cannon’s gang faces off against a rival KC mafia organization. In order to keep the fragile peace between the two rival cartels, the two crime lords come up with an twisted pact where they exchange sons and expect each other to keep their offspring safe. The fourth installment of the FX anthology series “Fargo” premieres on FX on Sunday, September 27th at 9pm et.

Joining Chris Rock on the Saturday Night Live Season 46 Premiere is musical guest Megan Thee Stallion. This will be her Saturday Night Live debut. Megan Thee Stallion’s new album “Suga” has over 900 million streams so far and includes the summertime hit, “Savage” which has gone platinum three times over.

Saturday Night Live returns on Saturday, October 3rd and opens its 46th season with host Chris Rock and musical guest Megan Thee Stallion at 11:30pm et on NBC.
