Bridgetown Comedy Festival Starts Tonight; Features Oswalt, Garofalo, Kindler and More

This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of Portland’s Bridgetown Comedy Festival, and the folks behind it are making sure to celebrate that fact with a killer lineup of hilarious stand-up sets, special tapings, live podcast recordings and brilliant stage shows. The festival is kicking off tonight and will wrap up on Sunday, May 7th, so be sure to head over to the Bridgetown website, grab your tickets ASAP and get out there!

Performing stand-up throughout the weekend are some huge headliners and some of our favorite comedians like Patton Oswalt, Janeane Garofalo, Andy Kindler,  Eugene Mirman, Laurie Kilmartin, Matt Braunger, Annie Lederman, Dave Hill, Jonah Ray, Hampton Yount, Guy Branum, Baron Vaughn, Jackie Kashian, Kevin Avery, Brooke Van Poppelen, Karen Kilgariff, Nico Santos, Eliza Skinner, Debra DiGiovanni, Ahmed Bharoocha, Chris Fairbanks, Shane Torres and many more.

Comedian Matt Braunger, one of the festival’s founders, will be holding the first ever taping of a comedy special at Bridgetown when he records his third, as-yet-unnamed special, which is open to all festival pass holders and only $5 for the general public.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 cast members Jonah Ray, Baron Vaughn, and Hampton Yount will take to the stage for An Evening with the Guys from Mystery Science Theater 3000, which will include a Q&A, a MST3K screening, and stand-up from all three comics.

The festival will also feature a wide range of themed shows including:

Hold On with Eugene Mirman,  a live storytelling show that runs on Audible Channels in which Mirman interviews guests and then pauses their stories to get the details they might have left out.

The New Negroes with Baron Vaughn, is one of the hottest shows in the country right now, and was recently picked up by Comedy Central; Vaughn hosts a slate of comics who are redefining the conception of what it is to be “Black.”

A Good Trip with Shane Mauss, where the psychonaut comedian talks about his psychedelic experiences in what’s described as “part stand-up, part storytelling and part TED Talk.”

Lance Bangs Presents: Come Laugh With Us, featuring rare footage from the filmmaker and a showcase of comics that include Kyle Kinane, Janeane Garofalo, Karen Kilgariff, Ron Lynch, Baron Vaughn, Jesse Elias, Brodie Reed, and April Richardson.

The Jackie and Laurie Show, which features comic vets Jackie Kashian and Laurie Kilmartin shooting the shit about women and comedy, two things they are very experienced with. Kashian will also hold a live recording of her podcast Jackie Kashian’s The Dork Forest, in which she discusses nerdy things with nerdy guests.

Palindrome Fight, featuring host Mark Saltveit and a list of comedian competitors, who will race to write reversible one-liners based on suggestions from the audience.

This is only a fraction of what the Bridgetown Comedy Festival will have on offer, so be sure to check the full schedule and find the dates and times of your favorite shows.
