Comedian Paul Virzi is poised to shoot his first ever TV special in August, and this one looks like it’s going to be huge! The as-yet-unnamed special will be taped at the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, NY on Sunday, August 13th across two shows at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The team behind it is killer: Comedians Bill Burr (F is for Family, Kroll Show) and Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live) will both executive produce the special alongside Matthew Schuler, who has previously produced specials for Michael Che and Godfrey. Just to make a good time even better, both Burr and Davidson will take the stage during the tapings- not to do sets, but to intro Paul and maybe tell a story or two. The event will be presented by All Things Comedy, the comedy cooperative founded by Burr and comedian Al Madrigal. Tickets can be found at this link.
Burr has been somewhat of a mentor for Virzi, with Virzi spending a few years opening for him on tour, including shows at venues like Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden. As such, Burr is understandably excited to see his friend’s star rising. “Paul’s growth as a comedian over the last 5 years has been amazing to watch,” said Burr in a statement. “He has found his voice and developed into a monster headlining act. I’ve seen him destroy in every imaginable situation and it’s great to see him get an hour long special. Well deserved and long overdue!”
If his career up to this point has been one big training montage, then this special is Virzi’s title fight. For his part, Virzi seems poised and ready to deliver a great special, which he promises will be a candid-yet-hilarious look at his personal life and private thoughts. “I am extremely excited and humbled to have the opportunity to shoot my first stand-up comedy special,” said Virzi. “This has been a dream of mine for a long time. It is also amazing to have a great team working with me. I feel like a boxer who has been waiting for his shot. On August 13th in Tarrytown, I will be ready!”
While this is Virzi’s first special, it’s not his first major comedy release. Back in September 2015, Virzi released his first comedy album, Night At The Stand, to critical acclaim, with the album reaching #1 on iTunes and #4 on the Billboard Top 100 charts. He’s also landed multiple TV gigs, including regular appearances on The NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, truTV’s Comedy Knockout, and Fox News’ Red Eye.
