Big Jay, Bert Kreischer, Bobby Lee On List of Comedy Central’s Next Rock Stars

Back in October, we reported on the very exciting announcement that Los Angeles-based comedy/music hybrid show The Goddamn Comedy Jam had been picked up as a Comedy Central series. It’s no surprise that Comedy Central was so quick to scoop up the fledgling show; the show’s simple formula makes for an insanely fun experience. The concept is simple: a roster of comics take turns going on stage and performing short sets. After their sets, however, they get to become rock stars; each comic chooses a song to sing, and then they get to belt out the lyrics while supported by a full band.

Under Comedy Central, the show will see two slight changes. First, the name has changed from The Goddamn Comedy Jam to just The Comedy Jam. Second, the show is no longer limited to only comics; celebrities from the acting and music worlds can now also join in on the fun. Other than that, not much has changed — the network has even kept show creator Josh Adam Meyers on board to executive produce the events. Comedy Central is clearly going big for this show, as they’ve announced the initial lineup of celebrities that will be shooting the show and the list is full of big names.

The Comedy Jam will be performing a series of free tapings between January 7th and the 12th. Here’s who will be performing on what days:

January 7th – Roy Woods Jr. (The Daily Show), Bobby Lee (MADtv), Hasan Minaj (The Daily Show), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Mary Lynn Rajskub (The Larry Sanders Show, 24), and Awkwafina (rapper).

January 8th – Nick Swardson (Grandma’s Boy, Reno 911!), Chris Hardwick (Nerdist), Tiffany Haddish (The Carmichael Show), Fortune Feimster (The Mindy Project, Chelsea Lately), Sam Richardson (Veep, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates), and Colton Dunn (Key & Peele).

January 11th – Big Jay Oakerson (The Bonfire, Legion of Skanks), Jim Breuer (SNL), Bert Kreischer (Bertcast, Bert the Conqueror), Taryn Manning (Orange is the New Black), Mark Duplass (The League), and Idina Menzel (Rent, Frozen).

January 12th – Jay Pharoah (SNL), Busy Philipps (Cougar Town, Freaks and Geeks), Matteo Lane (Adam DeVine’s House Party), James Davis (Comedy Central’s Swagasaurus), Malin Åkerman (Billions), and others to be announced soon.

Shooting will take place each of the four nights at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood; tickets to the tapings are free and can be requested here.
