Australia’s Umbilical Brothers Perform on the Late Show

The Umbilical Brothers from Australia have appeared on both Leno and Letterman in the past, but congratulations to Stephen Colbert for being the current day host who brought them back to late night in the United States. For a little background in case you’re unfamiliar, the “Brothers” are David Collins and Shane Dundas who were named two of Entertainment Weekly’s “100 Most Creative People In Entertainment”, and previously, they’ve toured, opening for Robin Williams. If you watch their Late Show set below, you’ll completely understand why they earned both those credits.

Collins and Dundas showed off a piece of their show, Speedmouse Re-Squeeked when they took the stage Friday night on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert , turning into human DVRs. They also answered the question of why people living “Down Under” don’t fall off the bottom of the Earth. There’s an entertaining reason for that in Australia, or as they call it, “Velcro-World”. The Late Show audience adored the Umbilical Brothers, but that may be because they all got to be part of the act.

It’s been 27 years since the UBs met and began performing together, and recent political events gave them some new material for their Late Show set, especially the infamous testy phone call between our new President and Australia’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, who the Brothers called an “Ass Nugget”. Collins and Dundas put their full physicality into acting out a meeting between Turnbull and a pantomime Donald Trump. The President’s small hands, his wall and his now legendary odd handshake were all covered by the Umbilicals as they defended their country’s honor with comedy.

The Umbilical Brothers are here in the states, performing in New York City for the next 4 weeks at Theater 80 St. Marks in the East Village. We’ll be featuring a full interview with David and Shane early next week- stay tuned!
