Amy Schumer’s new movie I Feel Pretty dropped its first trailer on Thursday, and if you can judge a movie by its trailer, I Feel Pretty looks like it’s going to be a big summer hit. Schumer plays Renee, a woman with a frumpy appearance and low self-esteem who, in her quest to be stunning, overdoes it at her Soul Cycle class, falls off her bike and hits her head. Her fall leaves her believing she is the most beautiful woman on the planet and her newfound confidence empowers her to live a very different life.
The storyline is nothing particularly groundbreaking here- everyone laughs at the chubby girl who thinks she’s pretty and along the way they all learn some lessons- and she may take some heat for laughing at the chubby girl who thinks she’s stunning, But if you can judge a movie by its trailer I Feel Pretty looks funny, and not darkly funny, or broodingly funny, just funny, something that is sorely lacking in the entertainment offerings lately.
Schumer sold the rights to the movie at the Cannes Film Festival, with sources saying STXfilms paid close to $15 million for the comedy.
Cast with comedy stars, great actors and super models, Rory Scovell, Michelle Williams, Emily Ratajkowski, Aidy Bryant, Sasheer Zamata, Kyle Grooms, Lauren Hutton, and Naomi Campbell appear. Screenwriters Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein direct. In theaters June 29th.
