Who is Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: December 12, 2020

SNL is live tonight and since it’s a new Saturday Night Live, let’s call the host by his name, Timothée Chalamet!
What do you do if you’re 24 years old and you’ve already been nominated for an Oscar and two Golden Globe Awards during your young, but impressive film career!? You naturally host Saturday Night Live for the first time, and not just host any old Saturday, but emcee the show on a night when rock and roll icons Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are the musical guests. As former SNL cast member Will Ferrell would yell, “That’s big time stuff!”
This will be Timothée Chalamet’s first time hosting Saturday Night Live. And when it comes to SNL scheduling, he couldn’t be getting a sweeter spot to for his booking. Not only is this a December, Christmas-time episode, (the year-end shows are always some of the best), but Timothée Chalamet is booked on the same night as musical guest Bruce Springsteen, a sure ratings grabber.
Tonight will be the third time that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have performed on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest. The last time the Boss was on Saturday Night Live, it was as musical guest back in 2015 during SNL – Season 41. That was also a December appearance and one that SNL and Springsteen fans will remember well. It was hosted by the comedy tag team of former cast members Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
After Fey & Poehler said goodnight at the end of the show, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band went into their Christmas classic “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” And as festive and great as that sounds, it got even better when they were joined on stage by Sir Paul McCartney. That’s a Christmas episode to remember. Let’s see if new SNL Christmas memories are made tonight.
This evening’s first-time SNL host Timothée Chalamet is best known for his Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated role in the Oscar winning film, “Call Me by Your Name” (2017). You can catch of glimpse of SNL already parodying that movie in the promos for tonight’s show below. Chalamet followed “Call Me by Your Name” with another Golden Globe nominated performance as the drug addicted son of a man who refuses to give up on his kid in 2018’s “Beautiful Boy“.
Besides his award-nominated performances, Timothée Chalamet has had rave reviews for his appearances in the independent films, “Lady Bird” and “Hot Summer Nights.” Along with the positive reactions he received in the latest remake of the period piece film he did last year, “Little Women.”
Next up for Timothée Chalamet is some comedy and sci-fi. First the comedy. Next year, he’ll be appearing in Wes Anderson’s latest comedy-drama, “The French Dispatch.” Chalamet will be part of an ensemble cast which also includes Benicio del Toro, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Bill Murray and Owen Wilson. It revolves around the staff of a 1950’s French-based bureau of a fictional Kansas newspaper. “The French Dispatch” has had its release date changed 3 times due to the pandemic. It’s currently scheduled to premiere some time in 2021. A good, safe, vague date.
Now on to Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming sci-fi project which he’ll also be promoting tonight when he hosts SNL. He’ll be starring in another remake of the movie “Dune” based on the 1965 science fiction novel also named “Dune” by Frank Herbert. The 2021 version directed by Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival“, “Blade Runner 2049“) co-stars Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem. “Dune” starring Timothée Chalamet is planned to be a two part movie event with part one due out on October 1, 2021.
Any one of these Timothée Chalamet projects could lend itself to being parodied by Saturday Night Live‘s writing staff tonight. Even the name “Timothée Chalamet” is so much fun to say, it could end up in a sketch or as part of the monologue. One thing we’re definitely looking for tonight, perhaps on Weekend Update or in the monologue or an SNL Short, is featured cast member Chloe Fineman’s impression of Timothée Chalamet.
She not only has Chalamet’s voice down, but also his facial expressions and gestures. SNL fans saw Chloe’s impression of tonight’s host at the end of last season on Saturday Night Live. It was featured in one of the final episodes of SNL – Season 45 in a short called “MasterClass: Quarantine Edition.” It was in the first of the three SNL At Home episodes which finished out the season after the pandemic lockdown ended all television production.
In the short, Chloe Fineman played a perfect Timothée Chalamet who was teaching a virtual fashion course online for MasterClass. His fashion tips were a lot of ballcaps and hoodies. It will be very interesting to see if the real Timothée Chalamet finally meets up with the SNL Timothée Chalamet tonight.
Of course, we’re expecting Saturday Night Live to open tonight’s show with something about Donald Trump as usual. The countdown is on for how long Saturday Night Live will have to torment President Trump while he’s in office. Friday evening, the Supreme Court of the United States rejected hearing the latest legal attempt by Trump and his Trump thugs otherwise known as Trugs, to pull off a coup to keep the current president in office, even after his January 20th expiration date.
The latest attempt to keep Trump as President had the state of Texas, along with other red states later joining in, trying to sue the battleground states that tipped the 2020 election in Joe Biden’s favor. Texas, led by its doughy Senator Ted Cruz, wanted the votes from Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin thrown out and not counted. This latest plot by President Trump could definitely inspire some comedy for tonight’s SNL Cold Open.
The other way the Saturday Night Live could open the show tonight is with a sketch about presidential attorney and the human version of walking around with toilet paper stuck to your shoe, Rudy Giuliani being hospitalized with Covid-19 after traveling the country without a wearing a mask. Maybe we’ll see President Trump (Alec Baldwin) pay a visit to an ailing Rudy (SNL cast member Kate McKinnon) at the start of tonight’s show.
Other Covid-19 news that could be sketch or Weekend Update material tonight on SNL includes Great Britain rolling out the first Covid-19 vaccine in the world to its citizens on what the Brits called V-Day and that same vaccine getting the approval of an FDA advisory panel for use here in the colonies.
Along with the FDA story, there’s also this gem from Trump Administration. White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn that he needed to grant an emergency authorization for the Pfizer Coronavirus vaccine by the end of Friday, or else resign. Just more Trump sneakiness for SNL to make fun of.
President-Elect Joe Biden & Vice-President-Elect Kamala Harris being named as the Time Magazine Peoples of the Year should come up at some point during SNL tonight. Mainly to drive the President crazy while he pretends not to watch the show.
Other real-life stories that might be transformed into punchlines on Weekend Update this evening by anchormen Colin Jost and Michael Che could include the Ohio State – Michigan game being cancelled for the first time in over a hundred years, Bob Dylan selling his music catalog for a reported $300 million, Floyd Mayweather agreeing to box a YouTuber, actor Tiny “Zeus” Lister passing away, Ellen DeGeneres becoming one of the latest celebrities to contract the Covid-19 virus and President Trump signing an order giving federal workers a paid day off for Christmas Eve. Because there’s got to be a Reverse-Scrooge joke in there somewhere.
Plus, featured cast member Bowen Yang needs to dust off his impression of former Presidential candidate and current millionaire entrepreneur Andrew Yang because the rumors are circulating that Yang is going to run for Mayor of New York City. To clarify, that’s Andrew Yang running for mayor, not Bowen Yang.
When you’re done reading about tonight’s live SNL, keep scrolling downward to watch the promos for tonight’s all new episode of Saturday Night Live. In this set of promos, host Timothée Chalamet is joined by musical guest Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and cast member Cecily Strong.
According to the promos, we find out there’s a been a huge addition to the SNL cast. And you’ll never guess who’s playing Dr. Anthony Fauci in tonight’s SNL Cold Open. Plus, host Timothée Chalamet and cast member Cecily Strong break out the “Call Me by Your Name” gimmick before tonight’s show even starts.
The adorably talented Timothée Chalamet hosts a brand new Saturday Night Live with musical guest, the adorably legendary Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, tonight at 11:30pm et and live coast-to-coast across all American time zones on NBC!
