Dave Chappelle, Melissa McCarthy Bring SNL Creative Emmy Awards

Sunday night more creative Emmy Awards were handed out at the 69th Annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which acknowledge technical and behind-the-scenes achievements from some of the years biggest TV shows. From best main title design and best theme music to best lighting and makeup, this ceremony is all about celebrating the unsung heroes, and there were a few big wins for comedy projects.

Saturday Night Live was among Sunday nights biggest overall winners, bringing home five awards. They captured the prizes for best guest actor and actress, for their high-profile episodes hosted by Dave Chappelle who hosted post-election and Melissa McCarthy (in her unforgettable role as Sean Spicer), plus the show also picked up Emmys for outstanding makeup, outstanding production design, and outstanding technical direction, camerawork and video control.

HBO’s Veep, preparing to go into its final season, came away with three awards: best casting, best single-camera cinematography, and best production design for their episode Omaha. Unsurprisingly, mega-hit shows Westworld and Stranger Things dominated the night, each bringing home five trophies.

Other comedy-centric shows to come away with wins on Saturday night’s show included James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special for best variety special, Adult Swim’s Adventure Time for best short-format animation, Bob’s Burgers for best animated program, The Daily Show – Between the Scenes for best short form variety series, Seth Macfarlane as the Griffin family on Family Guy, Jane Lynch for best actress in a short form comedy/drama, and more.
