Back in March, it was announced that Glenn Howerton (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Patton Oswalt (Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return, The King of Queens) have been cast in a comedy pilot being floated around NBC. Now the show has been given a series order and a name: A.P. Bio.
The show will focus on Jack (Howerton), an Ivy League professor of philosophy who, through unforeseen circumstances, finds himself having to take a job teaching Advanced Placement Biology in a high school. Opting to completely ignore the teaching aspect of his job, Jack instead decides to use this class full of brilliant students to his advantage. Along the way, he’ll have to deal with the overly-timid Principal Durbin played by Oswalt, as well as characters played by Lyric Lewis, Jacob McCarthy, Mary Sohn, Nick Peine and Aparna Brielle.
Besides the star power brought by Oswalt and Howerton, A.P. Bio also has an all-star crew behind the scenes. The show is being written by former Saturday Night Live writer Mike O’Brien, and boasts an executive producing team that features O’Brien, Late Night host Seth Meyers, SNL big-boss Lorne Michaels, Late Night showrunner Michael Shoemaker, and producer Andrew Singer (30 Rock, Portlandia).
Howerton is now the third It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia cast member to sign up for another full TV series, with co-star Kaitlin Olson getting set for another season of Fox’s The Mick, and Danny DeVito ready to star in an Amazon original comedy alongside Jeff Goldblum. While all three actors seem committed to sticking with It’s Always Sunny, which is gearing up for its 13th season, it’s going to get progressively harder to work around the schedules of so many busy actors.
