Cristela Alonzo Performs Stand Up on Conan

Wednesday night on Conan, Cristela Alonzo was thrilled to be performing on his late night stage. She wasn’t excited that it was her fourth appearance on Conan, but that it meant if she was on the show, that meant she hasn’t been “deported yet”. Even though she is an American citizen born in San Juan, Texas, she still didn’t feel too safe.

In a set ripped right from the recent headlines, Cristela talked about her depression after the Presidential election and how her white friends actually made her sadness and fear worse. And then, how she turned it back around on them. She also was part of the hundreds of thousands of protesters who took part in the Women’s March in DC the day after President Trump’s inauguration. She really got swept up in the power and the passion of the day and shared some of her favorite anti-Trump chants she heard that day. She also learned how hard it is to come up with her own chants, especially since nothing really rhymes with “equality”. Cristela also talked about why she’s a bad feminist which you can watch in the clip below, and how when she gets catcalled, it really doesn’t live up to what she was hoping for.

Cristela Alonzo was named to more than one “Comedians to Watch” lists two years ago and has come on strong ever since. Her special, Cristela Alonzo: Lower Classy, is available on Netflix and listen for her this Summer at the movies as Cruz Ramirez in the Pixar animated sequel, Cars 3.
