Candice Thompson Makes Her Late Night Stand Up Debut on the Tonight Show

When it’s time for your late night television comedy debut, it doesn’t get any better than performing on the number one late night television show, in this case, the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. That’s how Candice Thompson did it and she knocked it out of the park.

If you watch her clip below, you’ll understand why Candice starts at the top. In her Tonight Show set, she talks about the incredibly high and unfair standards set for kids who come from homes with two loving, attentive parents. She also blames having a great dad for her poor relationship skills.

To wrap up her appearance, Candice explains her racial background and answers the genetic riddle of what happens when two people (her parents) who are both African-American and Native American get together and have a child. That leads her to also let us in on what is known as “The Nod”.

We spoke with Candice about how she felt doing a stand up spot on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show as an African American woman. She said, “Black women do not get the opportunity they should or deserve in this industry, especially in comedy. So, it’s pretty amazing that I may have helped pave the way.”

Candice’s Tonight Show debut is another credit for her to add to a growing comedy resume that includes being named one of the Riot L.A. Comedy Festival’s “Comics to Watch” in 2016, appearing on Season 9 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and Season 2 of Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle on Comedy Central.

Candice told us what’s next. “I’ll be doing the road this year. I feature for Bobby Lee frequently. I will also be doing college gigs. I’m also consulting on another new project for truTV called ‘Smart, Funny & Black’. It’s a funny show that celebrates all things black culture, which we desperately need. I’m also working on two pilots for myself that I plan to have produced in the next year and a half. My goal is to be the black Tina Fey, but I always plan on doing stand up.”
