Larry Wilmore Bringing More Projects to ABC

We have lamented the loss of Larry Wilmore on television ever since The Nightly Show was cancelled by Comedy Central back in August. Although not every component of the show worked, the highly-political late-night show was clever and often subtly hilarious by virtue of its host and driving force, Larry Wilmore. While Wilmore was relatively new to the idea of being in front of the camera, he was very experienced being behind it. It now appears that Wilmore will shift his focus back to behind-the-scenes work, as it was just announced that Wilmore has signed a multi-year deal with ABC Studios to produce a slew of different projects.
According to Variety, under the new contract, Wilmore will have a hand in producing not only a few of his own original projects, but a few pre-existing ones as well. The move isn’t too surprising, seeing as how Wilmore already holds an executive producer position on the hit sitcom Black-ish, and even worked with the company way back in the day when he wrote/edited for Sister, Sister. Wilmore’s resume is long and proven, having worked on other successful shows like HBO’s new Insecure, The Bernie Mac Show, The PJs, In Living Color and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
The Emmy Award winning writer was bound to land on his feet after The Nightly Show’s cancellation, we’re just glad to see he’s done it so quickly, and we’re also excited to see what new ideas come from the mind of Larry Wilmore.
