Jay Leno Tags In On The Tonight Show (Again)

That nasty recurring joke injury struck the Tonight Show again Monday night. As the old gimmick goes, Jimmy Fallon thinks he “pulled something on that last joke” and needs help getting through the monologue. Then former Tonight Show host Jay Leno takes the stage, tags up with Fallon and hits the jokes hard. The audience loved it even though this wasn’t the first time a Jay Leno Pop-In happened on the Tonight Show. Leno came to the stage to huge applause. It was the kind of ovation that had to make Jay think that he could probably get the Tonight Show back again if he really wanted it.

In perfect Jay Leno style, he went right to work with the topical jokes about the 2016 Presidential election. He was even able to make jokes about screwing jack-o’-lanterns and grabbing pussy that were network friendly. No one was safe when Jay Leno got the Tonight Show stage back under his control. Trump, Hillary, Obama, Anthony Weiner, Isis and Kathie Lee & Hoda were all targets. Leno then did a lightning round of rapid fire jokes about how bad the economy is. And as the bit goes, that’s when Jimmy Fallon tagged back in to hit some economy jokes of his own and retake the monologue.

Plus, let’s hear it for Jay Leno. His part of the monologue was good enough to get him a spot doing panel. When he sat down with Jimmy Fallon, he had plenty of sit down stories about the real meaning of Halloween, buying a VCR for his mother, dealing with the mob and what it’s like to visit New York City. According to his stories, Jay Leno really gets shit on in NYC, especially for someone who’s Jay Leno.
