Goddamn Comedy Jam Is a Comedy Central Series Now!

Los Angeles-based comedy-rock show The Goddamn Comedy Jam has been picked up for a full series at Comedy Central. Called The Comedy Jam, the Comedy Central iteration of the show looks to be keeping the main formula of the show intact: Each week, a line up of comedians who want to live their rock star dreams will take to the stage and perform some comedy in the form of stories that center on a particularly meaningful song to them, and afterwards will perform the song accompanied by a live band. It is, in other words, a chance for us all to see our favorite comics fulfill their rock star fantasies (with varying degrees of off-pitch success).
The show has been taking place in Los Angeles and traveling to festivals since 2014, having featured comics such as Big Jay Oakerson, Bill Burr and Brad Williams in the past. It wasn’t until late last year, however, that the show really stepped into the spotlight. Show creator Josh Adam Meyers teamed up with Comedy Central to host The Comedy Jam last August, a star-studded and hilariously fun night that featured comedians Pete Davidson, Natasha Leggero, Jim Jefferies, Jay Pharoah and Adam DeVine performing everything from Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise to Cheap Trick’s Surrender. The performances always turn out to be raucous, passionate and funny as hell, and nobody works as hard as the GDCJ team, so we’re excited to see them get love from Comedy Central and a national broadcast audience.
To get an idea of what The Comedy Jam has to offer, check out the clip below of SNL’s Pete Davidson doing a brief stand-up set before going absolutely apeshit to Gangsta’s Paradise. Skip to 3:44 to see Davidson’s musical performance, which goes from a 9 to a 12 on the intensity scale when Coolio runs out on stage to join him!
The Comedy Jam is set to debut on Comedy Central in 2017, starting with an eight-episode first season. If you’re in the New York area, do not miss out on the chance to see the Goddamn Comedy Jam perform live at the New York Comedy Festival this year. It’s a must attend event.
