Twitter’s One Joke About Hurricane Hermine

This week had one of those rare news days when the top story leads to everyone making the same joke at the same time. The story wasn’t Trump going to Mexico or actually anything to do with the Presidential election at all. This was Hurricane Hermine which was the first hurricane to hit Florida in 11 years. According to CNN, Hermine had sustained winds of 80 mph before it was downgraded to a tropical storm after making landfall.

Now according to Twitter users, there’s one aspect of the storm that they couldn’t ignore, that Hurricane Hermine has a name that is very similar to JK Rowling’s wizarding heroine in the Harry Potter books, Hermione Granger.

Faster than the actual hurricane’s winds, people on Twitter were rushing to make Harry Potter jokes about the storm’s name. Everyone really seem to think that they were only one making the Harry Potter connection between Hermine and Hermione. Here’s some examples of everybody’s exact same Twitter joke.
