Brian Regan Performs ‘Make-A-Wish’ Set for Michigan Teen

Does all the news about the current election and mass killings and xenophobia and (insert terrible thing here) have you down? Well, here’s a little uplifting news to boost your spirits: According to the Lansing State Journal, Comedian Brian Regan recently performed a set for a Michigan teenager and over 200 of his friends and family after being contacted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation on the teen’s behalf.
16 year old Luke Granger and his family are big fans of Regan, having seen him perform at Michigan State University a couple times prior. “Brian was the first comedian I ever listened to,” said Granger. Regan’s comedy was one of many things that helped get Granger through the most difficult part of his life, which began last year, when he was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma (a rare form of muscle cancer); That diagnosis came just one day before the teen’s 15th birthday. Since then, the teen has endured two surgeries and 10 months of chemotherapy, which has significantly reduced (but not eradicated) the number of cancer cells in his body.
With such a dark cloud looming over Granger’s previous birthday, the boy and his father decided that they should make his 16th birthday one for the record books, and that’s where Make-A-Wish came along. The foundation contacted Regan, who was more than happy to answer the call for Luke and the hundreds of supporters who came out to celebrate his birthday.
“It was a huge honor to be asked,” Regan told the journal. “Getting laughs is normal as a comedian, but tonight had an extra layer of specialness.”
While Regan is known for being a wildly successful (and clean) comic, even he had a hard time coming up with a routine that included families with small children and a bunch of high school students, a job made easier by Luke’s brother Jake, who helped Regan pick out some bits for his set.
The set went off without a hitch, however, and the comic capped the night off by bringing Luke up on stage for a Q&A that ensured there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
Luke’s family runs a website, PrayingForLuke.Weebly.com that allows friends and family to stay up to date on Luke’s condition and donate gift cards to help with travel costs and Luke’s recovery. We encourage anyone who’s willing to visit the site and make a small donation if they feel so inclined.
