Alabama Man Jailed For Impersonating Kevin Hart Posse

“You’re not really a celebrity until you’ve had a stalker” goes the old adage that I just made up. Leland Burks, of Alabama, had the honor of officially elevating Kevin Hart to celebrity status this week when he was arraigned in court for impersonating a member of Hart’s entourage. In April of 2015, Burks, 55, used stolen credit cards to purchase tickets and book various hotel rooms in the Buffalo area while Hart was preparing to perform at the First Niagara Center in town.
Burks apparently told the hotels that he was a part of Hart’s posse in order to get access to high-end rooms across Buffalo, racking up a bill of $12,710. All of the purchases were made with various stolen credit card numbers.
Although Burks claimed to be a part of Hart’s entourage in order to pull off the scheme, it doesn’t appear that he ever actually got anywhere close to Hart, which kind of makes the whole $13K racket seem just a bit pointless. Here’s hoping Burks at least enjoyed some room service, seeing as how the charges against him (one count to defraud and two counts of identity theft) carry a potential sentence of 14 years in prison.
Seeing as how Burks had to be extradited to New York from Alabama after serving time for unrelated charges, it doesn’t seem that his change of scenery will be all too jarring for him. Small mercies.
