Arsenio Hall Suing Sinead O’Connor Over Drug Dealing Claims, Sinead Responds

Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor, in a (now deleted) post to Facebook, accused comedian/talk show host Arsenio Hall of selling “hard drugs” to Prince, who died on April 21st. In the post, O’Connor claimed not only that Hall sold drugs to Prince “over the decades,” but also that Hall had, at some point in the past, drugged O’Connor’s drink without her consent. The implications of O’Connor’s accusations are two-fold: not only is she accusing Hall of dealing drugs, she’s also making allegations about Prince for his alleged drug use (and bringing this up so soon after Prince’s death seems to be implying that Hall was somehow involved in the singer’s passing.)
While the Facebook note was deleted once news of its existence got out, some of the quotes have been preserved.
“Two words for the DEA investigating where Prince got his drugs over the decades … Arsenio Hall. Anyone imagining Prince was not a long time hard drug user is living in cloud cuckoo land,” O’Connor asserted in the post. She continued: “Arsenio I’ve reported you to the Carver County Sheriff’s office. Expect their call. They are aware you spiked me years ago at Eddie Murphy’s house. You best get tidying your man cave.”
Serious accusations, for sure. While accusations like these should always be taken seriously, it’s also important to consider the source. O’Connor hasn’t exactly been in a healthy place, mentally, in recents months, and she does have a penchant for public outbursts that tend to bring her negative attention, so the claims need to be thoroughly vetted before anyone jumps to conclusions.
Hall, of course, is vehemently denying these claims. In fact, as per CNN, he’s filing suit against the singer for defamation, to the tune of $5 million. According to the lawsuit: “Hall will not stand idly by while O’Connor attempts to get attention for herself by recklessly spreading malicious, vile lies that he engaged in egregious criminal conduct which falsely links Hall to Prince’s death.”
The suit states that Hall hasn’t had contact with O’Connor in about 25 years, so the claims will certainly be hard to prove, if they are indeed true.
On Friday, the singer responded to Hall and his lawyers with a similarly strongly worded Facebook post, in which she refers to Hall as “Arse-inio” and calls his threats “laughable.” Here’s the post, in full:
Now, we sit back and watch as Hall attempts to take O’Connor, who lives in Ireland, to an American court to prove 25+ year old claims that are all-but-unprovable. This is likely to turn into a circus that is going to cost one, if not both, of these celebrities a lot of money. Stay tuned for more developments in this strange case.
