Louis C.K. on ‘Louie’: I Can’t Feel That Show Anymore

LOUIE: Louis C.K. stars in LOUIE on FX.

Bad news for fans of FX’s Louie: During an interview with HitFix, comedian Louis C.K. suggested that his heart just isn’t in the sitcom anymore.

While speaking with HitFix’s Alan Sepinwall about the series finale of his digital drama Horace and Pete, C.K. was gushing about his satisfaction with the final product when he dropped a quick hint about where he stands with his other show, Louie:  “[Horace and Pete] turned out to be, for me, the best thing I ever made. It may be because Louie feels very far in the past. I can’t feel that show anymore. But I am drenched in the feelings that this show and making this show gave me and revealed for me. And the feelings I have for the characters and the fine people who played them and the crew that executed the show for me with such care. I am terribly sad that it’s over and bracing for whatever wild feelings will follow in it’s absence from my daily efforts.”

While some may theorize that C.K.’s lack of motivation to continue on with the show may stem from controversy or sub-par ratings, the beloved comic has been insisting for a while now that he’s simply a little burnt out and that some time off (from Louie) might do him and the audience some good.   When speaking to the press in January after a panel for FX’s Baskets, which he produces, C.K. had this to say on the matter: “Louie was going by really fast, I felt like, even though we took some breaks. And It did occur to me it’d be nice to let people go back and watch it for a while and let it soak in a little.  I put out seven stand-up specials in seven years, and five seasons of television. That’s a lot of me, and I’m on stage every night. So it did feel like good farming, to let the soil have several winters to freeze and thaw, and it’s going to be better for me creatively. And also I don’t want to let people get sick of me. If we can all quiet down for awhile, that’s probably a positive thing.”

So while C.K. does seem to be a little weary when it comes to his hit sitcom, that doesn’t mean he’s done with it for good. Fans of C.K. know that he’s absolutely brimming with funny, so given some time to recharge his batteries and replenish his well of ideas, the comic still could decide to come back with another hilarious season of the show at any time.   If C.K.’s rolling out of the completely under-promoted Horace and Pete is any indication, the man is unpredictable, so don’t count him out just yet.  Horace and Pete can only be watched online via Louis C.K.’s website, where both high quality downloads and streams can be found. The cost for each episode is $3.00, except for the premiere, which is $5.00, and the second episode, which is $2.00 (no, I don’t know why.)
