Eddie Izzard Takes On London’s Public Housing Crisis

Eddie Izzard plans on running for mayor in London and he’s already working on social causes near to him. Eddie has taken some time off the road from his Force Majeure Tour to dedicate himself to a social housing controversy in the Chelsea are of London.
He has thrown in himself in the middle of dispute where residents of Britain’s affordable public housing may find themselves put out of their homes. In particular, the Sutton Estate apartments where some of the units are set for demolition which would severely limit the number of affordable places for people who need them. The reconstruction would create luxury units that could go on the market for much higher prices in London’s booming housing market.
Eddie Izzard told the Guardian that sees this a form of “social cleansing” where the poorest people are forced out of their homes to make more room for London’s richest residents. He feels this is a return to England’s old class system and what he calls a “money-ocracy” where only the wealthy people make the rules for everyone.
He announced earlier that he intends on running for Mayor of London in 2020.
