2016 Candidates Beware! John Oliver Renewed Through 2017

John Oliver’s second season on “Last Week Tonight” has only been back for a couple of weeks and HBO has already announced that the show will be back for a 3rd and 4th seasons. This may have something to do with the fact that the top seat at The Daily Show suddenly opened up, or maybe its just coincidence. Either way, John Oliver won’t be taking over for Jon because he’s got his own gig locked up for two more years.
President of HBO Programming, Michael Lombardo said, “We are incredibly proud to have John as part of the HBO family. His unique ability to deliver socially significant commentary week after week, along with his innate comedic brilliance, puts John in a class by himself.”
The renewal means John Oliver’s satirical series on politics and the news of the day will be on the air through the 2016 Presidential campaign. With Jon Stewart leaving the Daily Show at some point (most likely this year), Oliver will become a lead comedy voice on the election as the candidates go through the primaries, conventions and general campaign next year.
Each new season of “Last Week Tonight” will be 35 episodes long with Season 3 beginning in 2016 and Season 4 scheduled to start in 2017. “Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver just picked up its first award at the WGA ceremony this past week.
