Joe Lists Helmet Has Been Sold! But You Can Still Donate to Help Kevin

On September 4, 2014 the 2014 NFL season began. It was also the day that 49 comedians set out to compete in the Highlander comedian football challenge, run by SiriusXM’s Ron and Fez Show and The Interrobang. 49 comedians entered but only one would leave and that one, was Joe List. In a classy and unexpected move, List offered to donate the winning trophy- a signed helmet- to a charitable cause.

List had originally planned to ebay the helmet for himself if he won. But when he was in the Ron and Fez studio to collect his prize, he said he changed his mind. Instead of ebyaing it, he wondered if it could be used for a good cause. “I had an idea and I don’t want to break up the party,” he told Ron and Fez show host, Ron Bennington. “What if we auctioned it to fans and gave that money to some sort of charity or something. Not that I’m not really appreciative of the helmet, but I’m not really a sports collector.” His choice to donate the helmet was classy and well timed. Ron and Fez had recently heard from someone in need– a 36 year old truck driver with a brain tumor who was in need of surgery and unable to work.
Kevin Grear has been a professional over the road truck driver for over 10 years, but had to stop working in May after severe headaches and dizziness prevented him from being able to drive. He was given six weeks paid leave, but when that period ended, he was terminated, and has been unable to work ever since. In September, Kevin was told that a tumor had been found deep in his brain near the pineal gland and it would have to be removed. He is traveling to Texas to have the operation this week. His prognosis is good with the surgery, but he had had very little income since May, and has been paying his bills with savings and help from family and friends. He is facing numerous expenses associated with the surgery that are not covered by his insurance and will be losing his unemployment benefits during his recovery.
Kevin’s family has told us Kevin he takes a lot of pride in being able to work and support his family and it is very hard for him to ask for help for him and his children. Kevin has a son who was born on October 22nd of this year, and three stepchildren, aged five to eleven. All proceeds from the auction of the helmet will go straight to helping Kevin and his family. You can also donate directly at his youcaring.com page which was set up by his family.
The helmet is signed by at least 15 football greats, including Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Jim Kelly, Anthony Munoz, Tony Dorsett, Dwight Clark, Bruce Smith, Tony Gonzalez, Matt Stafford, Jim McMahon, Shaun Alexander, Chris Johnson, Bryant McKinnie, Ryan Grant, and Eddie George— and is a huge collectors item.

Big thanks to Joe List for the big heart move. That’s why they call him Classy Joe List.
