“21 Jump Street” Getting The All Female Reboot

JumpStreet

Sony is developing a new business model for its comedies. It involves taking one of their successful comedic film franchises and rebooting it with women in the lead roles. The premise this time is a female version of “21 Jump Street”. The comedy remake of the late 80s, early 90s dramatic TV series starring Johnny Depp, has been redone with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. The “21” and “22” Jump Street movies have combined for over $330 million at the domestic box office.

This is the second comedy film franchise that Sony is rebooting with a female cast. A new “Ghostbusters” film is shooting this year in NYC starring Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon. It’s directed by Paul Feig for Sony.

The new female version of “21 Jump Street” is being called a spin-off according to Tracking-Board.com. So far, no stars or a director has been attached to the project. But the studio has brought in the team of Lucia Aniello and Paul Downs who are writers and co-producers on Comedy Central’s “Broad City” starring Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. Besides being a writer and producer, Paul Downs also appears on the series as Trey the fitness instructor.
