Comedy Bang Bang Releases Harris Wittels’ Final Podcast
“This is not the introduction I wanted to do for this episode…” — Scott Aukerman says during his deeply frank and very personal opening for a special podcast that was recorded days before Harris Wittels’ passing.
Harris, a frequent guest on the Earwolf comedy network’s Comedy Bang Bang: the Podcast and longtime friend and sometime collaborator of Scott Aukerman, had returned to the show for the fourth time as “NOT Farts & Procreation” after about a years worth of emails trying to get Harris back together with Chelsea and Adam. A few days later, at a party, Harris and Scott talked and mutually agreed that it wasn’t their favorite thing they’d ever done, for the reasons Aukerman explains in his introduction. Harris also said he wanted to come back in and do more episodes soon and talked about how great things were going. A few days later on February 17, Harris passed away.
Aukerman initially had some reservations about releasing the episode as some of Harris’ final work, since it wasn’t necessarily their best. But ultimately, Scott says, he’s reminded of comedy’s purpose, which is the antithesis of being serious and decided the go the path of comic relief because, at the end of the day, “Mother fuckers wanna laugh.”
