Party At The Bar From “Birdman”

The Rum House is a Theater District cocktail lounge where Bill Murray has been known to sing with the house jazz band and celebs have been known to spark out joints. Don Draper would walk into the place and still think it’s 1959. It’s everything you want in a bar and rarely get.  The Rum House was one of New York’s most authentic bars long before Birdman came calling, but now it’s not just cool, it’s also popular.

The bar was the set for two scenes from the Academy Award nominated film, “Birdman”. One scene involved Michael Keaton and Edward Norton arguing over a couple of glasses of whiskey and the other is when Keaton’s character confronts a theater critic in the bar. According to the New York Post, the Rum House staff says that business is up from people coming in because of its appearance in the movie, except for those tourists who just come in to look around without ordering anything.

We’ll see if the fame from Birdman can keep the Rum House open.  The historic neighborhood bar resides on the first floor of The Edison Hotel, which recently evicted the beloved Edison Cafe.
