Over 200 Labels Say Bye-Bye to Spotify

The Washington Post is reporting that a recent study by Digital Music News about consumer buying patterns has led over 200 labels to pull their music from online services Spotify, Napster, Simfy and Rdio.

“As a distributor we have to do what is best for our labels. The majority of which do not want their music on such services. They provide poor revenue and have a detrimental [effect] on sales. Add to that, the feeling that their music loses its specialness by its exploitation as a low value/free commodity,” STHoldings said in a statement on its Web site.

The group said that of its more than 200 labels, only four said they wanted to stay on the streaming services.
