Sofia Coppola is directing a Christmas project that will star Bill Murray as himself. The untitled work is due out in time for Christmas 2015. It also features George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Amy Poehler and Rudolph – Maya, not the red-nosed reindeer.

The project will be art imitating life. Bill Murray’s lack of using an agent or a manager in real life is the premise for the script. He’ll play himself as he’s relentlessly pursued by a Hollywood shark who is desperate to sign him. According to Entertainment Weekly, the idea for the holiday story came from Mitch Glazer who wrote another Bill Murray Christmas classic, “Scrooged”. Murray, Coppola and Glazer all worked on the script and will produce. The trio worked together on “Lost in Translation” which brought Sofia Coppola an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and nominations for Best Director and Best Picture, plus a nomination for Bill Murray for Best Actor.

George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph will also all appear as themselves in the movie and will be singing one or two Christmas carols. The cast also includes Dmitri Dmitrov, the maître d’ of the Tower Bar, who will play Murray’s valet.

The project hasn’t reached a deal with a distributor yet.
