Kate McKinnon Teaches Kids the Financial Facts of Life

How young is too young to learn about how to get a loan and the downward spiral of interest? Author Beth Kobliner wants you to start early. Really early?

SNL’s Kate McKinnon is helping to educate kids on the almighty dollar. She joined bestselling writer Beth Kobliner to create a video that helps teach some early life lessons. The video, produced by Above Average – the digital comedy studio founded by Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video uses comedy to explain to our youngest capitalist why saving is important, how credit cards work, and why borrowing can bite you in the butt.

There’s also some career talk- did you know some kids dream of being gagitators? We didn’t either. Is there money in it? Doesn’t seem that way.

“By age three, kids can understand basic money concepts,” says Kobliner. “But most parents don’t have money conversations until their kids are about to leave for college.” Here’s hoping Kate McKinnon can help get the conversation started.

Beth Kobliner is the author of two bestsellers, Make Your Kid a Money Genius (Even If You’re Not) and Get a Financial Life: Personal Finance in Your Twenties and Thirties. A contributor to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Money, Glamour, and O, The Oprah Magazine, she has also appeared on Good Morning America, Today, National Public Radio’s Morning Edition, and many other programs.
