Bo Burnham Compares Himself And Taylor Swift To Lottery Winners Who “Got Very Lucky”
Tuesday night, Bo Burnham said he got lucky and by the way, so did Taylor Swift, so don’t bother trying to follow in their footsteps.
Conan had asked the YouTube viral star turned stand up celebrity for some advice for young people trying to break into the business. Bo’s advice to all the hopefuls: “Take a deep breath….and give up.”
The audience seemed stunned at first, actually murmuring amongst themselves after Burnham said “The system is rigged against you. Your hard work and talent will not pay off.” He also warns against taking advice from people who have made it through luck. Like himself and for some reason he dragged Taylor Swift into the conversation. “Don’t take advice from people like me who have gotten very lucky,” he said. “Taylor Swift telling you to follow your dreams is like a lottery winner telling you to liquidize your assets, buy lottery tickets.”
“And,” he added, “And we’re tall white guys,” (he said referring to him and Conan, not him and Taylor Swift). “We overcame nothing to be here. There was nothing standing in our way and we barely got here. You have no chance.”
