Artie Lange Says He Was Pulled Off @Midnight Tonight Over Tweets

artie lange crash burn

Comedian Artie Lange was scheduled to be a guest on Comedy Central’s @midnight show tonight, which is taping in New York City as part of the New York Comedy Festival. But you won’t be seeing him when you tune in because Comedy Central pulled him from the show at the last minute, after a controversy erupted today over some tweets he sent out that the New York Post has called “vile and racist.”

The original tweets that Lange sent out yesterday about ESPN Host Cari Champion are no longer on his feed, but the Post saved and republished them earlier today.   (and we’ve reprinted them below)

Since then, Artie has released a spectrum of tweets, expressing anger, and outrage over the complaints, and saying he will not apologize.

Put together in order, the tweets together form this statement:

I’m about to tweet a few things I can’t believe have to be explained in a rational world. I observed that was a gorgeous lady.  This observation came while I was watching one of my favorite tv shows ESPNs First Take. I also noticed she was black.  I then thought it would be funny to tweet JOKES about that observation. A decision which might be the end of modern comedy I tweeted jokes that in the past I would’ve said in privately in my home among friends. I know black women who could join me and handle it.  I won’t debate if the tweets were funny. That could take minutes of precious time left in my career. The issue is do they warrant an apology.

Tricky question. I would rather load trucks for a living then ever apologize to one of these awful PC groups ruining the country.  So that’s a NO. But if it upset the lady in question that’s another story. Let me say to if this hurt u in any way I’m sorry.  I’m a comedian. Sometimes I’m funny! For the record my moms disgusted w the tweets. But if I based my humor on my mom I’d be broke.

Soon after he tweeted that Comedy Central contacted him and told him that they were pulling him off the @Midnight taping.  He apologized to Ms. Champion again, stating “ they were all jokes. Stupid jokes. Very stupid but jokes. Pls don’t let them harm you. If they did I’m sorry.  But I’m sure you’ll be ok. You’re gorgeous & talented. I hope that didn’t offend u. To the PC army. Congrats! U won again! Gluten free cake!

To the people who complained about his tweets he offered this statement.

I don’t hate women. And to u PC groups that did this I wanna be clear. Go FUCK yourselves! Now get back to saving the world. Done. Peace.

He isn’t upset with Comedy Central.

For the record I’m a fan of & I respect whatever decision they make. I know they’re under pressure.

And took time to mention that he will be appearing, as planned on the “Race Wars” podcast tonight which is hosted by comedians Sherrod Small and Kurt Metger.  The taping takes place at The Village Underground on West Third Street at 10pm.  Get tickets here.
