Tuesday night on Conan Wyatt Cenac talked about what it was like to go the Grammys.

Cenac was nominated for his album, Brooklyn, and so he was invited to the Grammy award ceremony. It was his first time at the Grammys and he said it’s not quite as glamorous of an experience as he expected. “The thing about the Grammys,” he told Conan, “there’s the stuff people see on tv where they give out six awards, but then there’s 75 other categories that they have to give out before that. And it is exactly 75.” The pre-Grammy event, he said, is open seating. “They just are like, yeah sit wherever you want and if you win, just put your hand up so we can find you.” So you have to sit through all 75 awards until yours gets called, in this general admission set up.

He also dropped this bombshell: It costs $700 to bring a date to the Grammys. When he got nominated, he got offered one ticket. No plus one. No date. But, he was told he could purchase a ticket for a date for $700. Cenac declined the invitation to spend $700 to bring a date. “I was so happy that I wasn’t even in a midling relationship,” he said. “Cause I feel like if I had gotten nominated and I was just in a half assed relationship that I wasn’t sure about, and it’s like I’m going to the Grammys and here’s some woman who’s like ‘we’re going to the Grammys’ and it’s like nooooo. We’re going to have a conversation.”

Before the Grammy’s Cenac had predicted Louis C.K. would win.  He was correct. But he’s going to get another shot. Cenac has a new album coming out, “Furry Dumb Fighter.” He has a prediction about whether it will be a Grammy winner. You can find out in the clip from last night, below.
