The movie “Tag” formerly “The Tag Brothers” has been bouncing around in comedy purgatory for a couple of years now. The film has Will Ferrell and Jack Black attached to star in it. Production on the movie has been waiting for all the pieces and players to come together. Another piece just fell into place. New Line studios has brought in Rob McKittrick to write the script. McKittrick is best known for writing and directing the Ryan Reynolds comedy that took aim at the food service industry, “Waiting”.

According to Variety, McKittrick will write the movie based on a Wall Street Journal article about a group of friends who have kept a game of tag going for the past 25 years. The game of tag, that the friends who are now all in their 40s, started when they went to high school together at Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane, Washington. Over years, the game has evolved. Now it is only played in the month of February and the level of difficulty has been raised since the friends all live across the country from each other. There have been flights to other cities, home invasions and plenty of tricks used in recent years to make the tag. At the end of February, whoever is “it”, remains “it” until the next year.

“Tag” doesn’t have a production schedule yet. The studio is still looking to select a director and tell that person, “You’re it”.
