Saturday Night Live is all new tonight with host Melissa McCarthy. This will be Melissa’s fourth time hosting SNL, her first time hosting was on October 1, 2011, and then she hosted again on April 6, 2013 and February 1, 2014. McCarthy’s most recent SNL appearance was on the 2015 SNL 40th Anniversary celebration last February. She took on the role of Matt Foley, motivational speaker in tribute to Chris Farley, and appeared as part of an SNL hosts musical number with Steve Martin.
McCarthy’s past SNL hosting runs have always been strong episodes, playing memorable characters like a museum maintenance worker, a professional pizza eater, a contestant on The Voice, a taste tester, and Congresswoman Sheila Kelly.
Tonight’s SNL could be the first opportunity to possibly see McCarthy interacting with two of her Ghostbusters co-stars — Kate McKinnon and Lesley Jones, on television. Although McCarthy has appeared in sketches and digital shorts with McKinnon, this will be the first time she’ll be appearing on SNL since Jones signed on last year. We’ve got our fingers crossed for a possible Kristin Wiig surprise run in. It’s a little early for the girls to officially start promoting the Ghostbusters summer release- there isn’t even a trailer out just yet– but you’re never too early to get buzz up and running.
McCarthy’s musical guest- the ever controversial Kanye- should make for an interesting episode. McCarthy released two promos this week, one “nail” themed with Vanessa Bayer in a nail salon, and one with Kanye calling it the biggest show ever.
