Julia Louis-Dreyfus Hosts SNL Tonight
Julia Louis-Dreyfus star of three comedy hit series, two of which will undoubtably be a part of the pages of comedy history will hit the Saturday Night Live stage to host tonight, Saturday April 16. Louis-Dreyfus became a household name first as Elaine on Seinfeld. She followed up that success with the sitcom The New Adventures of Old Christine, and now stars in one of the most critically beloved comedies on television, Veep. Long before becoming an international comedy star in Seinfeld and Veep, Julia Louis Dreyfus was a cast member on Saturday Night Live, but admittedly not a very well-known one, grabbing little stage time and almost no recognition. Her most memorable sketch involved a giant zit, as you’ll see below in the promos. Louis’ time on SNL did have a gigantic impact on her career, it was there that she first crossed paths with Seinfeld creator Larry David, who was also having a hard time on the show. In a recent interview with the New York Times, Julia said that she remembered her time with the cast “fondly-ish” but said that there the environment was very sexist.
Tonight will be the third time hosting the show that gave Julia her television debut, she also hosted in 2006, and 2007.
This weeks promos include a bit with Aidy Bryant confusing Julia for Richard, and Julia interacting with musical guest Nick Jonas.
SNL generally only releases two promos, one on the set with the musical guest and one interacting with a castmember. This week, the series of promos with Bobby Moynihan and Julia together were too funny to pick just one, they put out three, and you can watch all of them below. Julia and Bobby sit down for coffee, while Bobby proudly salutes madam President musically. Later in the series Bobby tries to remember Julia’s big characters but can only come up with Big Zit Cindy. He’s very proud of her career since SNL however, including her big hits Steinfeld, and Beep. Moynihan feels down on himself for only having one big credit, but hopes he can change things after this week.
