Who’s Hosting Saturday Night Live Tonight: July 9, 2016

Saturday Night Live is not live tonight. The 2015-2016 season came to an end back in May, and you’re stuck with repeats until the fall. But you do have Melissa McCarthy hosting with Kanye serving as the larger than life musical guest. With Ghostbusters coming out on Wednesday, the decision to air a repeat of Melissa McCarthy hosting SNL earlier this year is so perfect it must have been planned. McCarthy’s SNL ep originally aired in February, which didn’t make sense at the time, because SNL hosts usually have something they are looking to promote the week (or pretty close by) that they appear on the show. Ghostbusters, which stars McCarthy along with SNL cast members Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, as well as SNL alum Kristin Wiig hits theaters in less than a week.

Don’t let the opening number fool you, this will mark McCarthy’s fourth time hosting the show; she previously hosted in 2011, 2013, and 2014. Although she appeared on the SNL40 anniversary show, she didn’t host.

There aren’t any ghost themed sketches or action crime fighting, and Kristin Wiig doesn’t make any surprise appearances, but you do get to see three of the four women who share the screen for the first time in a sketch called the Pick Up Artist.
