Saturday Night Live is back tonight with week two if its 47th season. The theme this month is first time hosts, and this week Kim Kardashian makes her SNL hosting debut.
The decision to put Kim K at the helm shocked plenty of people, as she’s not comedic, at least not intentionally, and isn’t really a performer either, but if sports stars can pull this show off, so can the world’s most famous influencer. Some of the best episodes of SNL have been helmed by celebrities without acting experience, take for example Elon Musk’s episode last season. Besides, rumor has it, Kim has an all-star comedy team coaching her, including Dave Chapelle, Ellen, Michelle Wolf, Amy Schumer, and even James Corden. So she’s in good hands.

Kardashian is world famous media personality, influencer, businesswoman, and reality television super star. Her early notoriety came from palling around with Paris Hilton, before a 2007 sex tape leak drove more attention in her direction. Soon after that Keeping Up with the Kardashians made her a super celebrity and she’s taken that fame into the social media and business world with a wide variety of products branded around her image. In 2014 she married Kanye West and had four children with him before filing for divorce earlier this year. And while she exemplifies the idea of being famous for being famous, you can’t deny that she’s parlayed that fame into an empire.
In the new promo with Halsey and Cecily strong, Kardashian announces her self as Kim Kardashian West leaving many to hope there could be a special drop in from Ye, after all, she’s been traveling around with her not-so-ex ex to some of his Donda appearances, so why not? Ever since the couple officially split earlier this year, they’ve been spotted together, supporting each other quite a bit. Insiders say West has also been giving her advice ahead of her performance, but he may not be the best person to take cues from. In 2016 he had a meltdown before his performance on the show, and then in 2018 surprised everyone with a pro-Trump speech, that was cut for television and got boos from cast and audience alike.
In her promo, Kim says hosting the show is EASY– she doesn’t have to write the sketches, or memorize lines, and as long as nobody else will look as good as her, she says “this is easy.”
There are few clues to be found in the sole promo released for tonight’s premiere.
