Saturday Night Live is back live tonight so you don’t need to figure out something else to do. SNL cast alum Will Forte is hosting and it’s bound to be a real knee slapping episode, because lets face it, Will is funny, and the cast is due for a grand slam. And Will was always known for the weirder sketches on the show, a trait that he has taken into his post-SNL career quite successfully.
Will almost wasn’t an SNL star, he turned down his first offer to become a cast member because he already had a great job writing for That 70’s Show, but later joined the cast in Season 28. But he remained with the show for eight years, creating unique characters, and playing in oddball sketches.
Forte has had a fantastic post-SNL career. Since leaving 30 Rock, Will has played National Lampoon’s founder Doug Kenny in the biopic A Futile and Stupid Gesture, he released a popular movie, Macgruber, based on an SNL sketch, and he’s created, helmed and starred in a hit critical darling network tv series, Last Man on Earth. His talents go beyond comedic roles- his dramatic performance in the black and white Alexander Payne film Nebraska, received widespread critical acclaim. He’s currently starring in a Macgruber series based on the SNL Sketch and subsequent movie, and has another Macgruber movie in the works. And you can hear his distinctive voice in roles in just about all the made-for-adult cartoons.
It’s been ten years since Will left the cast of Saturday Night Live and this will be his first time hosting the show.
Shows hosted by former cast members are always really fun and often include cameos from other former castmates. Will shared the stage with so many greats like Fred Armisen, Tina Fey, Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, and Jason Sudeikis, Kristin Wiig, so you never know who will pop in.
